Musubu Cinema. Youth Against the World: “Go”

A new way to approach Japanese cinema

We all know names like Akira Kurosawa or Hayao Miyazaki, but Japanese filmography is much broader and more diverse. Through monthly cycles of two films, Musubu Cinema wants to open the door to works, authors, and perspectives that often stay out of the spotlight.

Each session will feature a brief introductory talk by Pablo Gaviño, contextualizing the work and its theme. This will be followed by the screening of the film and, finally, an open discussion to share impressions, emotions, and reflections on the experience.

This month’s theme: Youth Against the World.

Films in the cycle:

— Go (2001)
May 30 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Directed by Isao Yukisada and based on the novel by Kazuki Kaneshiro, Go portrays the life of a young Korean man born in Japan trying to find his place amidst identity conflicts, racism, and adolescence. An intense and vibrant story about belonging, rebellion, and love.

— Love & Pop (1998)
May 31 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Directed by Hideaki Anno, Love & Pop is an experimental and provocative work that explores loneliness, consumerism, and the search for connection in urban Japan during the nineties. A cult film that breaks away from the traditional forms of cinematographic language.
