Introduction to iaido. Japanese culture and tradition
On Tuesday, November 10, we invite you to an introduction to iaido, the Japanese martial art of drawing the katana. It is a discipline that develops concentration, precision, and control of movement.
We will be joined by sensei Alfred J. Castellet, from Bujinkan Bamboo Zen Dôjô. He will explain the history and philosophy of iaido and the tradition of the Japanese sword. Afterwards, he will give a demonstration of several kata in traditional attire. We will also be able to see an authentic katana up close and a practice sword (iaitō), always under strict safety rules.
This is a cultural session and demonstration, not a practical class, and no previous experience is required. At the end, all participants will be able to sign up for a free practical class on another date to try iaido first-hand.
