Japanese Printmaking Workshop: “Sakura de Familia”

Artist Kurumi Wakaki has hand-carved four cherry wood blocks, the same material traditionally used for Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking plates. Each one features a motif inspired by Japanese aesthetics, such as waves and cherry blossoms.

In this workshop you will be able to print one of these blocks with your own hands. Together with all participants, we will combine the prints to create, little by little, a large collective image of the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí’s masterpiece, on the gallery wall.

We have named this experience Sakura de Familia: an encounter between the Japanese sakura and Spain’s most famous Familia. We invite you to participate in this collective creation and discover how traditional Japanese printmaking and Gaudí’s iconic architecture come together in a work built by everyone.

In homage to the unfinished nature of the Sagrada Familia, this project will not conclude in a single workshop. The prints made at Musubu will travel to Japan, where they will be joined by those created by participants in a second workshop. It will be then when the silhouette of the Sagrada Familia is completed and the artist adds the final details that will give definitive form to this collective work.
