Kansha Opening. Ceramic sculptures inspired by ancient Japan and Taíno culture

We are pleased to invite you to the opening of this exhibition, which stems from the desire to explore, through kansha, fundamental concepts of Japanese culture as well as Taíno culture, also related to gratitude.

“Kansha” is a Japanese word meaning gratitude. In Japan, giving thanks involves recognizing the effort of others and paying attention to what has been given to us.

The Japanese pieces are inspired by dogū and haniwa—ancestral ceramics linked to ritual and funerary practices—symbolizing invisible notions that have shaped Japanese sensibility over time. The Taíno pieces are based on the cemí, which are sacred objects of Taíno culture representing deities, nature spirits, or ancestors, and held a central place in their worldview.
