Guided tour Kansha. Ceramic sculptures inspired by ancient Japan and Taíno culture
Discover this exhibition alongside its artists!
An exhibition born from the desire to explore, through kansha, fundamental concepts of Japanese culture, together with concepts from Taíno culture also related to gratitude.
“Kansha” is a Japanese word meaning gratitude. In Japan, expressing gratitude implies recognizing the effort of others and paying attention to what has been given to us.
The Japanese pieces are inspired by dogū and haniwa —ancient ceramics linked to ritual and funerary practices—, symbolizing invisible notions that have shaped the Japanese sensibility over time. The Taíno pieces are based on semí, which are sacred objects of Taíno culture that represented deities, nature spirits, or ancestors and held a central place in their worldview.
